The exhaust tube to the lower unit on my 4.3 alpha one mercruiser is dissconnected does anyone know 1. Is this critical to the performance of the boat, and2. How I reconnect this so called flexible aprprox. 3 inche hose it is not easy and am having a hard time doing so? Is there a trick? It seems that when the lower unit is trimmed down would be best but then I can't get at it to slip on...I took the clamp off of my other boat with same lower unit, I just bought this one and noticed it when I was replacing the mph pitot fitting. Would this have been disconnected for any reason or perhaps did it just go unnoticed?

Is this an Alpha I or an Alpha I Gen II?
Assuming you are referring to the exhaust tube/bellows between the gimbal housing and the bellhousing. Do you have a bellows or a tube?
if you aren't sure, pictures are worth a thousand words.

I believe It is the bellows not sure if genII the boat is a 1996 manta ray looking at my bayliner it definitely ne eds to connect to the bell housing which is the housing the prop is on right. Right now it is connected to where it comes out of the back of the boat (gimbal housing?) or do I have the terminology reversed?
