Does anyone know what to check for on this trim problem...

First of all... 1991 bayliner capri, 140 Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha one Gen II outdrive (OD577441).

I am trying to figure out whats up with this trim. it goes up no problem but it wont go down... No clicking, Not doing anything, So i would assume its something electrical? My manual is pretty vague on the subject. I guess i should id the pump for you. The complete pump assembly part number is 108120.

What should i look for first?

the pump electrical is controlled by soleniods - just like the slave soleniod on the engine - same part, works the same way (green - down, blue - up)

primary posts (small) activate the solenoid - "click" engaging the secondary posts (large)

no release, crack the lines with a 3/8" flare wrench - you will lose oil by doing this

any line connection will work

best to do it on the outside, that way you can catch all lost oil in a pan - saving you from cleaning the bilge

either one of the two lines on either side of the block under the gimbal housing will relieve pressure

Re: Alpha one outrive trim wont go down

Im hoping its a bad connection or loose wire somewhere. My buddy said it always worked fine before he put the boat in storage. i would never pay someone 200 bucks to rebuild a little pump. If thats the case I will probably just rebuild it myself for that price. not to mention the knowledge you get from diy. Thanks for the tip, matt

Make sure you check the solenoids before draining or removing the pump.
