Hello everyone, Ive got a 99 Maxum 1900 with 5.0 merc and alpha one gen 2 drive.Im trying to replace aluminum michigan prop.Got a used stainless turbo prop off of a trashed 150 Merc black max. When i put the prop on there is none of the prop shaft sticking out to attach the spline washer to.Can i just leave off the spline washer and drill hole for cotter pin? Dont want the prop coming off! By the way im using the original thrust washer.

Ayuh,... It probably needs a different thrust washer to bolt on properly...
Get the Right hardware, Don't drill the shaft...

Re: alpha one prop problem

Thanks Bond-o problem is i tried to put it on even without thrust washer just to see if it would work and i still have the same clearance. i know i cant use it without the thrust washer i was just checking for clearance. according to specs for the turbo-1 prop it should fit but when i put it on the end of prop and threads are dead even. i checked last night to see if the hub could be pressed down farther allowing it to seat deeper put i think i could only gain about 1/16 inch and i still would not have any room for the spline washer.question is could i just use a regular washer in front of the prop nut and skip the spline washer thanks so much for your help.

Re: alpha one prop problem

You need the spline/locking washer. It is what keeps the nut from working loose and you then losing your prop.
