alpha one question

was wondering what the small hole on the front of the lower unit does. looks to be about an 1/8 inch hole. and where does the rubber hose go to after it leaves the port in front of the shift shaft? the one im looking at has been J B welded closed?

I believe the hole you describe is the pitot tube for the speedo. It sees water pressure that varies with speed.
The rubber hose goes to a fitting inside the gimbal and out on the engine side. You should see a tube from it going to your speedo.

IF it's an Alpha I Gen II drive it would be for the speedometer.

Thanks to both of you for the responses. I didnt notice those other drains and vents though either... although i didnt give it that good of an inspection.
