1997 Alpha One Gen 2.

Really frustrating that I was sailing through the shift bellows replacement and the brass shift tube assembly that threads into the bellhousing is simply stuck.

The 9/16 head brass is rounded and I have a feeling I'll be reverse drilling it, but I read a horror story here about breaking the tap off. I do NOT want to remove the bellhousing if at all possible. Should I just drill it out and clean the remaining brass out of the threads with a tap? Anyone know the thread size, type (npt, etc) and pitch?

Any advice here? Of course I have a week to decide as now I'm waiting on the whole shift cable assembly to arrive. Thinking of replacing the drive bellows too, now that it's all apart.

Got the tap on the way.

Hopefully the hinge pins aren't as seized as the brass shift nut....
