I have an 5.7 Alpha One ("Gen 1"); and it shifts fine in forward and into reverse. But if/when I go to give it throttle in Reverse, it stalls. I can see the Lever Assy (13051A4) actuate the cut-out switch on the shift bracket.
Would that be a sign of the lower shift cable being bad?.... even though it shifts into gear OK... I just can't give it throttle in Reverse. I didn't think the lower shift cable moved any more, after it was in gear...

Verify the shift cables (both of them) are adjusted properly. Then verify the throttle cable is adjusted properly. If everything is adjusted correctly and you are still having the issue it could be the lower shift cable is worn and binding just enough to activate the v notch/shift cut out switch

You can and should pull the lower cable off the linkage and shift it by hand. Anything but butter silky smooth and you need to replace the cable.

Usually a sign of crud build up in the bottom of the shift slide, or the shift slide cavity in the bell housing. Often because the upper shift shaft seal is leaking...

Have you have the drive off recently?

Chris.....

I think it's fixed; will try more tomorrow.
I took shift cable off of assembly, pushed the end of the cable in as I rotated/locked the prop in gear (i.e. counterclockwise); then measured the distance from brass barrel nut to end, and it was about 0.100" too short. A couple turns on the barrel nut, and it seems to allow me to give it gas in Reverse without stalling, now.
