Let me give a little background , I have a alpha one upper unit 1.5 ratio and the gears are all chewed up so I have a used set of 1.98 gears laying around so I decided to goof around and regear this housing. I took it apart and pulled the bearing pack off the input shaft, slide off type with little spacer....off to my bearing distributer I go with bearings in hand. Bought the bearings and back home oiled up the 1.98 drive gear and slid the first bearing on then the cup, little spacer large spacer, cup and second bearing. Then seal carrier with new seal large washer and retaining nut, slid the shaft into the gear put the washer on and new nylock nut installed my piston ring compressor turned the assembly a few times and snugged up the piston compressor all ok snugged the nut up a little more and took off the compressor ring and torqued the nut up to 80 ft lbs. turning the assembly a few times. The problem is it seems tight so took it apart thinking I forgot. Something and no put it back together again and still seems tight to the tune of 17in. Lb. tight. This is not normal right, I usually check the rolling torque even with the slip on type gears and they have been within the 6-10 in.lb. range.
