alpha one swap issues

Alright.....heres what I've got. A 98 searay 175 that has no outdrive....and 89 searay 160 br that has no stringers left. It would be great to swap the outdrive from the 89 to the 98...but I've been told it won't work. Any ideas? I have everything on the 89.... motor to propeller.

By the way you phrased your response........I am worried.....I am willing to make it happen. It would be great to get running with what I already have. What would it take?

Take EVERYTHING out of the 98 and put all the 89 stuff in it.
Personally, I would take all the stuff out of the 89, and sell it if it's all runable and in good shape, then buy a new SEI Alpha I Gen II outdrive from iboats.

I guess I am dissapointed that I dont have the easy fix I thought I did. Logically selling the 89 and buying the outdrive makes sense......but then my project seems to have failed. I guess I ll have to get over it. It seems like there must be away to use the newer motor with the older gimbal housing and drive. What are the differences?

Ayuh,...... That's Doable.....
Swap everything from the Flywheel Cover back,+ the T-Stat housing.....

It'd be nice to know just What the 'ell We're workin' on though......

OK I am considering doing the swap. Would the motor have to come out? Can you remove the gimbal housing and the flywheel housing with the motor in the boat? Also is the transom mounting the same between the new drive and the old drive? I would love to be able to knock this out over the weekend.......correction, my wife would love for me to be able to knock it out over the weekend.

Can anyone tell me what is preventing the swap. What physically prevents it from working? I found out that the shifter linkage is different and the trim mounts are a different width. Can I swap the trim rams and replace the linkage.....Thanks, I know someone must have tried this before.
