OK. I did a stupid and underfilled my Alpha. I spun the upper bearing and I've gotten it out, checked everything over 3 times and that bearing is the only casualty.

Can I install the new one, shim and torque chack it and NOT have to to the alignment procedure?

Mind you, everything else is fine, perfect even. I caugtht it before anything catastrophic hapened.

Advice?

Thanks.

No one said you have to align anything, you need to check it and make sure it's still good.
Alignment should be checked at least once a year. Just to make sure something else didn't fail. The only thing that can go wrong if the alignment is off is the coupler fails and you have to pull the engine to replace.

That choice is up to you alone.

Wow. Checked yearly? I missed that in the service manual. Good to know. In all the years and boat's, I've never had one fail so I never considered it. I suppose I'll have to look into ANOTHER special tool then.

Thanks
