I have a 1998 5 liter Mercruiser Alpha One in a Regal 2100LSR. Never had any trouble and always maintained. Had a shop service (routine) the drive about a year ago. It has about 175 hours on it (hour meter installed) I just launched the boat and motored the very short distance to my slip and checked for leaks, etc. I quickly found I put one of the water screw in plugs (removed from winterizing) in the wrong hole on the motor and the open hole was spitting water inside the engine compartment. Total engine run time in this condition was less than 5 minutes. I put the plug back in the right hole and ran the engine to confirm it was all ok. I topped off the drive reservoir and called it a day. On the 2nd time out, after returning from a day out on the lake I found a white milky substance on the top of the fluid inside the remote reservoir. I also found good looking (no white) fluid on the top of the outside of the reservoir. The cap was tight. Is there a gasket inside the cap? Mine does not have a gasket in the reservoir cap. I am wondering if I have some moisture or condensation entering around the cap? I plan to remove and drain the remote reservoir and see if I need a cap gasket, then see if this happens again.
Any thoughts?boat white fluid.jpg
