Alpha one will not shift into Neutral

What would cause the drive to not shift back into neutral after being put into Forward Gear, or Reverse gear?

A bad, disconnected, or misadjusted shift interrupt switch.

Well could be quite a few things.

Please post what you are working on Merc, OMC, year and such?

But common items would be lower shift cable shot, cable adjustment, if it shifts but can not be shifted back unless you shut down the motor the likely culprit is the shift interupt switch fuction or adjustment.
