alpha trim cylinder retaining ring

The retaining ring seems to have broken loose and is sliding on the ram.Can I get a new one and replace it without taking the whole thing apart????Charlie

Hello Charlie, I had this happen to me once. Looks like a large stainless snap ring? I cleaned the groove that it sets in on the ram with a small dental pick. I found a lot of gunk in there that was keeping the ring from seating in the groove. Carefully snapped it back into place with a small screwdriver and a little piece of wood and a plastic hammer. It's never popped loose again......That was about 3 years ago. Might wanna try this before you replace anything. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.I tried getting it back in but I think there are supposed to be little rings at the tip to grab with the right tool and they are gone.Charlie

If the cylinders are Merc - there are<br />no little holes to grip - if you are in <br />salt water - the end caps are eaten out<br />and need replaced - what do you<br />have.
