I'm about to install a used MK IV 454 in my stepson's 23' WebbCraft Velota. He scarfed a donor boat with this thing in it, and the very first thing I see, as he's backin' under the hoist, is the coupler splines are skinny. His dead 330 hp 454 had a 3 bolt triangular plated coupler, the replacement engine had a 6 bolt round coupler. The replacement 454 also has an Iskendarian Megahydraulic 281 cam, Edlebrock airgap intake, and Edlebrock 1410 marine carb. Am I risking him blowing the azz off this rig, letting him run it this way?

Howdy,

If he's putting a "Tricked" engine in the boat, he should be putting a new coupler in too or he'll be pulling it soon to replace it!

What drive is hanging off the back?

they are interchangeable.the splines are the same. the 6 bolt takes a different bell housing being the only difference. its just to accommodate the larger heavier rubber.

use the 6 bolt. thats what it is made for.

Re: Alpha vs Bravo 1 coupler

Thank you, gentlemen - this confirms my suspicions. We're gonna run that POS Alpha if it gets to the water at all before Maine freezes, but the stepson will be savin' his ducats for the real doo-doo for the spring of '11. I have the right bell housing from the donor boat, and I'm hangin' on to it like a spotted azz ape.
