Finally got time to install new controller I got a few weeks ago from iboat.

uflex 184m
Ordered cables for it if current ones will not work. Same as what is currently on it is what they sent me.

The cross cylinder will not go into the holder. If controller is shifted into reverse then the cylinder gets close. There is not enough adjustment anywhere to get it to go together.

Did I get sent wrong parts? Or am I not seeing the adjustment?

This is a 1990 crestliner. 4.3 merc. Alpha1 outdrive.

According to Uflex it states that either Uflex or all Merc, VP and OMC cables will work with it. The only adjustment should be the amount of throw the binical moves the cable. Guess I'm going to need to see what your seeing

For use with:
- All Ultraflex control cables except C4, C36
and MACH36
- Mercury®\ current BRP® (OMC®) \ Yamaha® \
Suzuki® Honda® \ Volvo® style cables
- 33C style cables

This is a 19mb file, but listing is on page 142

What iboat calls it is 600a mercury cable 13ft.

Iboat part number
1-cc17913

what is on there now is seas tar. Same as what they sent me that will not fit either.

They do not answer the phones on Saturday as I tried them, both I boats and uflex first.

It is what they sent me.

I never buy things off the Internet. If you cannot call them there is no order.

Gave them serial numbers and part numbers off cable for length.

Oh well, think they sent me wrong cables. Right length, wrong end to controller.

Not knowing for sure but my instincts are wanting to say the new shifter design isn't 100% set up for a Mercruiser plug and play.....I believe in order to make the shifter work with your cable design you will need to order and install a kit bar type setup to the shifter control unit part number; K35 - 34730 U Kit to connect C5, C16, MACH5 and Mercury® style cables to single lever control boxes, except B301, B302, B103 and B104 available through iboats;
https://www.iboats.com/shop/uflex-c5...-controls.html

Info found in the following,
https://www.marinedeal.com/product_p/ufx-k35.htm < Used as a cable fitting parts guide...;
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-MerCr...-/140705883832
Reading on your shifter says:
For use with:
  • All Ultraflex control cables except C4, C36 and MACH36
  • Mercury®\ current OMC®\ Yamaha® \ Suzuki® Honda® \ Volvo® style cables 33C style cables
  • Ultraflex C5, C16, MACH5 and Mercury® cables require K35 - 34730 U connection kit
  • Ultraflex C22 and C23 cables require KB1 - 39964 L connection kit

Though I'm sure you are/did already...'Just be sure you received the B184"M" = MERC as reading the descriptions says the needed parts comes with the M controller to make Merc type/style cables work...Are there any other parts inside the box, etc.?

Product description:
  • Single lever/dual action control to operate both throttle and shift
  • Suitable for any type of boat with outboard, inboard or I/O power plants
  • Enables easy and safe shifting by preventing accidental gear engagement unless engine is idling
  • Can be installed horizontally or vertically
  • The lever assembly is made of painted marine aluminum
  • Provided with a brake tension release system adjustable from outside
  • Pull-out handle disengages shift for warm up
  • Neutral safety switch prevents in-gear starting
  • For use with all Teleflex engine control cables except CC170
  • The B184 model has a power trim switch on the handle
  • B184M includes X50 neutral safety switch and K35 conection kit for Mercrury cables.
  • This still looks a bit like to make any Mercruiser type cable work, this kit needs to be installed....So ordering new cables might not be the correct answer....Yet.....
As mentioned in AD's PDF link above on pages 155 Your 600A cable is also known as a CC179** (*13ft) cable number from Teleflex which is also comparable to ULTRAFLEX # C5-MACH5 (< That is should you end up having to go with a new/another type cable to work with this controller)......

^ While on page 140 regarding the 184 SINGLE LEVER SIDE MOUNT CONTROLS says;
B184 and B184CB models are provided with a power trim switch conveniently located in the handle grip that enables an easy tilting of the engine ■ For use with: - All Ultraflex control cables except C4, C36 and MACH36 - Mercury®\ current BRP® (OMC®) \ Yamaha® \ Suzuki® Honda® \ Volvo® style cables - 33C style cables ■ Ultraflex C5, C16, MACH5 and Mercury® cables require K35 - 34730 U connection kit ■ Ultraflex C22 and C23 cables require KB1 - 39964 L connection kit.

Just for better clarification purposes, What does the numbers on your old and new cables read?

Sorry it took so long. Turned real cold last night and trying to warm up shop.

the numbers off the old and new cables are

3992617_01

sea star solutions Inc.

if the cable clamping things would move they could be adjusted then to go together. Seems they firmly placed by the factory.

The only adjustment is at the engine for shifter or throttle connection. With the adjustments there all the way out, they still do not go into holder spots. Need bout 1 inch more for throttle, 2 inches for shifter.

Thanks for your help so far.

There doesn't seem to be much info online to try and match up those numbers (3992617_01) with other products vs what they would fit, etc. though I know they do exist as Mercury cables...http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/7585892/Throttle_cable_serial_number_m
https://www.ebay.com/itm/TELEFLEX-T...rcury-Mariner-8-5-Ft-3992617-01-/401157387822

Are there by chance any other numbers on the cable or on the new box the cables came in?

And by chance do the cable clamping things look anything like the K35 - 34730 U Kit in the following image? https://www.boataccessoriesaustrali...s/k35-connection-kit-suit-control-cables.aspx

Just for reference of technically speaking, the shifter should normally be in neutral gear position for the cables to be connected correctly for the starting point.

No, has a black fitting and red one for controller. But these need to be threaded on. No threas and cable clamping cylinder is permanent attached to sheath of cable.

As you were saying you found that these cables will not work and need to get right ones. That is what the local dealer here was stating also. Just did not want to go back to merc controller as I feel many times aftermarket can be better construction.

will call them Monday sometime to get right ones coming. Thought all the nice lady at Iboat needed was the length of cables off the number.

Still got about two months before it will go to fish anyway. About the same time as all h breaks loose at work. Bass boat is useable tho.

Just to confirm; The K35 kit I kept referencing was hidden away in the box/installation manual package?

If at all possible it would be kind of neat if you could do a small write-up/article of how you connected the parts to make it all work maybe even show a photo or two of the parts.:encouragement:

Sometimes it can be a challenge to go from stock OEM to an aftermarket setup like you're doing is why I bring it up.
