Just bought a 1988 stingray mercruiser 3.0 130hp alpha1. Trim moter& pump was bad, replaced with complete new unit was pre wired all i had to do hook up to battery. Got most of the milkie oil from system, added new oil. Problem is when I pushed tab button up-Nothing, no sound anything.
when i pushed the tab button down the outdrive started up. the trailer button worked. when i disconnected old unit, the black hose was on right and clear hose on left. thats the way i re-installed.

Re: Alpha1 trim motor

You got bad wires comming from the trim limit switch or a bad switch. Go to the rear of the boat and with the drive up look in the gimble housing for black lamp cord type wire. My bet is its bad. The trim limit sendor is the port sending unit where the drive pivots.

Re: Alpha1 trim motor

followup,
found that the new pump unit plug has the blue and green wires reversed. that might be why up is down? is it ok to change? I think i still will have the problem with the trim not going down, could that i still have a lot of air in the lines?
thanks

Blue is up (think of the sky)
Green is down (think of grass)
