I have a 1989 Marcruiser 350 with Alpha One. I want to convert from the three wire alternator to a one wire. Where do the two wires go, where does the orange go and where does the black go?

Re: Alternator Change

No where. I just did the same thing on my boat not too long ago.

Depending on the alternator output (if you increased the output increase the wire size) run your existing or a new 10 or 8 guage wire from the alternator post to the positive battery post (keep the wire away from the engine to reduce heat and keep it as short as possible) or to the battery common side of the perko switch like I did.

Either tape off the other three wires or remove them completely as they are no longer needed.

The only change you may see is that you may need to rev the engine some to get the alternator to kick in.

Re: Alternator Change

Just did this last week. Exactly like Elk Chaser said! Easy mod and saved me 100$ over the OEM option. The mounts on my OMC where different so i had to make an adapter. Not sure yours though, something to check...

Re: Alternator Change

So I tape the two wires that went to the regulator and the ground wire, right? Then I take the orange wire that is already an 8 gauge wire and run the to the one terminal on the new alternator?
