How hard is it to rebuild a marine alternator? Any kits with brushes, bearings, etc out there? Any how to guides that you would reccomend?

depending on the type, not that hard, GM is about $5 for 2 brushes

So, my alternator won't give me a consistent 12v and never higher. That kit looks like it has brushes, bearings and a voltage regulator. From w.atching videos it's about what I expected to r&r the parts. Is there any check for the ststor and rotor, like a resistance range, or is it strictly a visual exam?
Also, is the v drive belt marine specific or any correctly sized automotive belt ok?
