alternator replacement

I have a 1978 185hp 305gm omc model 990252j and I m trying to cross reference an old prestolite alternator (alk6222y). There is one post for battery lead and one small post for voltage reg. I haven't had any luck. would anyone have an oem# for that model or any other cross references? thanks jv

how bad is the old alt? Take it to a rebuild shop.

Can he be sure he'd still have a marine alt after the rebuild shop is finished or is there nothing they could do lose the "marine" rating? (honest question-not a suggestion)

sure... it's all in the case. If they use the same case there's no problem
