Alternator replacement

I am replacing my alternator! The new alternator is from a different manufacturer than the original! My question is the sensor and excite posts on my original alternator are jumped across! Can I do this on my new alternator as it came with separate wires for each! I really don't want to cook my electrical system! Are all alternators created equal?
