I just had my Volvo 7.4 GL (actually a ChevY) rebuilt by a local mechanic due to water seapage. When re-installed the engine will now no longer stay running. (Fuel pump isn't getting power)

The Clymer's Service maual shows a wiring diagram without color coding or description. I believe the alternator wires are crossed. The diagram shows that power for the fuel pump is served from the alternator output????
Does anyone know where to find a thorough diagram for this purpose. Or, is there another place I should look for the fuel pump power problem. ( BTW-it works when 12 volts are connected directly from the battery..so the pump should be OK)

I can't help but think the field coils (exciter) in the alternator are powered by the same circuit that powers the fuel pump. What else is connected to the fuel pump wire?

The alternator output is usually a rather thick orange wire that ties to the battery through the starter solenoid connection.

The fuel pump wire is connected to the alternator and the ignition coil. Someone else sent me a wiring diagram...gonna try the correct wiring combination first...
I'll keep you posted

Getting the proper Volvo factory manual will get you the correct wiring diagrams. All boat mfgs use the motor mfg wiring code and harness.
