How are where should I mount an anode on a alum hull? Any suggestion? Boat almost always will see salt water and I want to protect it as much as possible. Thanks

Re: alum hull anode

I think it depends on the size of the boat. The larger it is the more anodes you will need.

In seawater I think Zinc is preferred most of the time...but that might not be the case with aluminum hulls.

Anode manufacturers sometimes list how much square feet of exposed hull their anodes will cover. It depends on if you boat is painted, how well it is painted, or if it is a bare hull, what the hull is made of. And don't forget the outdrive / outboards etc...

I've seen brackets welded to the transom, below the waterline of course and as close to the bottom of the hull as possible, that you can mount the zincs to. As bayman states, it depends on the surface area of the hull as to how much zinc you need. Although you can use other materials for aluminum, zinc works great.

On most trailable boats (up to about 25ft), the anodes on the motor are enough to protect the hull also, but bonding straps/wires must be in good condition.

How many anodes are on your motor?

Re: alum hull anode

I have a 89 85 hp force with 2 anodes on it right now. The hull does look like it is starting to pit a little. Just wanted to stop anything that was going one. I only use it in salt water and it has no anodes on the hull. Thanks for the help.....
