I have a alum boat 20' and two of the alum rivets, in a row, just pulled out of the drilled hole. It seems they where never flattened at the factory? You can not get to them from the top side. I have replaced them with alum pop rivets with marine caulked. This works only for a short time and they have become loose and start to drip. However, they have never came out of the hole so far. Doesn't seem they have enough grip.Is there any other medthod or product that will repair this problem with the given situation?

There are 2 simple choices and I have had success with both.Get the largest rivet you can and pop rivet and seal with 3m 5200 sealant. The 5200 will hold with more strength than the rivet. The other choice is to get stainless nut, bolt ,washer.Fill hole and spread 5200 to cover where washer will be on both sides.Come back in a day or two after it is cured.Drill small pilot hole in the 5200 and thread the bolt through with washers and tighten down.As long as you made sure to spread the 5200 past where the washer will cover to act as a galvanic barrier you wont have to worry about dissimilar metals.Charlie

TK, I have seen Pop-Rivet Backing washers that have rubber seals attached. These should help with the leaking problem, and the washers were also heavy duty.(If you have seen tin roof nails with the neopreme washers, same idea) I would contact the company to inquire where you could get these

There's some kind of wierd product called Alumalloy. It's a low temp welding (I guess it's more like brazing/soldering) stick for aluminum and other alloys. You heat the area up with a regular propane or MAPP torch and flow this rod into the hole. They show this exact repair (fixing a missing aluminum boat rivet) on the infomercial.
I did a web search and found it at
http://www.newtechnologyproducts.net/?OVRAW=alumalloy&OVKEY=alumalloy&OVMTC=standard
