I've got this old '91 Alumacraft Competitor 185CS which has a livewell and two baitwells. 2 years ago the Livewell pump went out and I am now in the process of replacing it. It currently has a Johnson Pump mayfair model #2450 pump of which is no longer available. This pump has a valve assembly attached to it and I am wondering if there is a cartridge that will fit this housing or if a new complete pump will still attach to this valve assembly. All of the current 90* pumps I've seen for sale have a threaded tube coming out of it and mine does not have this as the valve assembly takes the place of the threaded tube. Does anyone have any info?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Alumacraft 185CS livewell pump help?!?!

You can use any live well pump regardless of the inlet and outlet fittings. Garden hose-to-barb fittings and any other fittings (plastic or brass) you may need are available at Home Depot, Lowes, Fleet Farm, or your local hardware store. A piece of hose and a couple of clamps and you are back in business. Take the valve and pump with you and ask for help if you have trouble visualizing how to connect everything. Just ask for help from someone who has worked in the plumbing department there longer than 15 minutes.

Alumacraft Comp. 185CS Livewell/Lower Unit issues...

Alumacraft Comp. 185CS Livewell/Lower Unit issues...

Problem #1: I bought a new Bilge pump (cartridge style) and replaced the old cartridge but the problem I found is water leaks like CRAZY from between the base and the pump head. (This pump has a yellow top and black base - it leaks between the yellow and the black parts) What do I do to fix this leak? It leaks fast enough to get the auto bilge pump to kick on about every 5-7 minutes.

Other problem: Lower Unit went out.. Driveshaft sheared off due to hitting something while boat was underway. The problem is this: my powerhead is a 1994 Johnson 120 J120TLARK (which originally came with a 2pc driveshaft). After looking at the driveshaft that is in the Lower Unit that is on my boat (not the original) It has a 1pc Driveshaft (OMC Part # 394613 stamped on shaft). The problem I have is finding the proper lower unit with the proper Driveshaft. One Outboard parts house told me I have to re-use the top part of the driveshaft. He also said that if I had a 1pc shaft I didn't have a 1994 model year engine. (From what my book says this model engine is specific to 1994 model year). So.. with all this said, would I be safe to say I need a 1984-1990 Lower Unit to have the proper driveshaft since my old driveshaft is 1pc ('84-'90) and is very very broken?
