can anyone tell me if aluminum and epoxy resin will work together?
I've used gluvit on most of the inside of my hull but would like to add some cosmetic features with epoxy resin and glass.. will the epoxy stick to the aluminum? or will it just crack off?

I've used epoxy to fix pitted aluminum many times.
If you have concerns about whether what you want to use will hold, try a test piece. As with any adhesive or coating the surface must be clean and prepped properly.

Re: Aluminum and epoxy

Thank you for the reply..
I think I may wait till I know this thing floats. but from there I wanted to add a fiberglass splash well and seat combo I had designed for the boat.
The seat and well hide the flotation foam. I added a skirt like piece of ply wood to conceal the foam and hold it into place.
I thought I might seal the entire boxed in seat and splash well to the hull and add plumming to the drain hole from in front of the boxed in area.
ATM this just sounds like too much work.. I need some coffee.

How did the Gluvit work out for ya? If the inside is coated, and the seams, im betting she'll float just fine.

yeah it worked real nice mate. I'm painting it today, mud brown or marsh brown.
Gluvit is the stuff, thats for sure! I wish I bought a gallon of it! I could have painted the entire boat three times with a gallon!
It's been a great project and it lifts the fears of future aluminum boat projects!
