I have the opportunity to get a 12' aluminum boat given to me, but there is a catch. This boat was used by the local coal company to check water in ponds created after mining, and were not trailered but instead were tied to a truck with a rope and dragged across fields. The boats look almost new until you turn it over and look at the bottom. In a few places, the aluminum is paper thin and in some cases worn through with narrow gaps. Is this boat worth attempting to coat with gluvit, rhino liner, JB weld, bondo, or whatever. It will only be used with a trolling motor on small lakes or ponds.

Re: Aluminum Boat

Take it to the scrap yard and use the resulting cash to purchase one without holes . . .

From the sounds of it, the cost to repair would be greater than the cost of a different boat.

I agree. A boat in good condition costs enought to restorer as it is. Be patient and keep looking. They're out there, just have to find 'em.
