aluminum hull repair

hi have a 79 blue fin aluminum boat the hull is kind of beat up i tried silicone in some of the seams is there a better way to seal it up that can be done while it is on the trailer thanks:redface::redface:

gluvit on the inside... maybe 3m 5200 on the outside maybe???

You need to get rid of ALL the silicone first..... Nothing sticks to it and essentially it sticks to nothing properly.

Gluvit may be applied on the exterior but it will not flow against gravity.

You should do the repair properly.

thanks for the help the only problem the inside is all new I was told it didnt leak so i didnt bother putting anything on the inside this was my first boat restore so rookie mistake so i will try on ext. so thanks again for the help

Unfortunately I think you'll be wasting time and money by just doing the outside. Best of luck though.

On my little boat (12' aluminum) I used Gorilla Glue where the aluminum on the transom meets the aluminum bottom. Gorilla glue expands once applied, it can creap into the crack and seal it, worked great for me. I would agree that the silicone must be completely removed first.

Do not over apply, if you do remove excess before it sets. Once dried it is like concrete. Also Marine Tex is a great product.
