Re: aluminum hull

Can you gain acess to em at all from inside? If so coat the area with a product called Gluv-It..It will cure and seal up any of the leaks.

If you absolutely can't get to em from inside, you could apply to the outside area.

IF you don't want to pop the deck,,,,,,

Don't know that you couldn't get by a lot cheaper with standard aluminum-aluminum closed end rivets and a small tube of 3M 5200 from home depot.

Maybe someone knows better??

Re: aluminum hull

full decked boat, would have to tear it all out to do it... has anyone drilled out the rivets and used closed end rivets before from outside, could drill the 3/16 and put in 1/4 inch closed end ?

Re: aluminum hull

I can't see why not. I guess you would not have the shear strength of a solid rivet but I would think it would be fine.

I am not replacing rivets, but I am plugging a couple "below the waterline" holes and pinning a plate to cover the "swiss cheese like"(still haven't figured out why all those holes were drilled by the POs) transom metal rather than plug them one at a time. I have complete confidence in the closed ends.

I am sure you have read here the "proper way" to do this,, re-buck and seal with Gluvit,, but I reckon a properly set and sealed closed end will do you fine.

Long before I found this sight I patched a few on my ten foot jon with open ends and a dab of JB weld and haven't had any problems.

Since it's on the bottom of the boat, I'd go with JB Weld or some 3M 5200 as mentioned in an earlier post. The fish won't care what your hull looks like.
