Getting ready to repaint Salt water Johnson and need to know what to do about the aluminum pitting. After sandblasting there will be lots of pits in the lower casings. Is there a product I can use to fill in the pits before applying the $pecial primer I purchased?

Re: Aluminum Paint Prep

When I did mine, it was almost silver from the old paint falling off..

There was alot of pitting on the LU..

I spent hours cleaning it out.. then made sure it was totally dry. (used a heat blower) then I used straight old "auto filler" sanding with normal wet and dry.

Then 3 coats of etch primer and about 8 of Acrylic lacqurer and one final coat of clear..

Then I bolted a big anode to it and called it good..

Its been in salt water alot since then, and thus far there has not been a problem, you cannot see where the pitting was, and the paint and filler have stayed put very very well, it amazed me just how strong the acrylic lacqurer is when its totally hardened.

rgds

Frank
