I am in the market for a new aluminum prop for my boat as my current prop is a little ratty. 18' aluminum Starcraft with a 90HP Evinrude. I recently installed a tach which shows that my WOT RPM is just about 5300 which seems ideal to me. Top speed is somewhere around 37-39MPH. Current prop is a 13 1/4"x 17" OMC one.

One of the basic Solas Amita props would surely get the job done for me. However, I'm wondering if one of the other options would be worthwhile such as the Turning Point Hustler.

The current prop does tend to blow out if I nail it from a dead stop, and it doesn't seem like I can trim too far out either before it blows out.

5300 is on the low end of desired WOT RPMs, I think the target is usually 5500-5800, so if you go to SS or a 4 blade you will want to drop a pitch or 2, or you may drop to under 5K. the fact that you can (blow out) (ventilate) your prop shows that you probably have your motor at the best height, most people have their motor too low, if you can trim too much you should raise your motor. this can also be caused by a rough hull

My OEM manual says WOT operatig range of 4500-5500 so I figured 5300 was pretty good. I do think my motor is at a good height and no rough hull. This boat (especially compared to my last one) absolutely glides on the water with no plowing. I'm not interested in and SS prop as I tend to whack stuff from time to time :p

If your prop is from 76 it could actually be worn enough to have the diameter undersized especially if run in silty sandy conditions.
The turning point Hustler can perform very well but can be unpredictable producung results that have made some wonder if they were miss labeled. The solas amita have had good predictable results. A new prop may grip a little better.I would stick with the 17" if your happy with the performance.

Ez...... stay with the 17".

The Hustler as stated are a touch more aggressive due to cupping and are vented.

The solas 17 or the hustler would be my choice

If I get a Hustler though, do I need to drop to a 15"?

Borrow a 19" sst from the shop and give it a try, do not go to 15 or you might blow a rod through the block. 19 ss will spin like a 17 alum but give better shot and higher top speed.
