Aluminum Question

Hello all,

I'm wanting to strip paint off my aluminum boat and repair old rivers! My main question is, is it a good idea to strip paint and clean the aluminum and repaint in a short period of time? Can I strip the boat down to bare aluminum one weekend and then paint the next weekend? Is the aluminum ok to sit bare for a couple of weeks in a garage or once you strip it is it a good idea to paint it as soon as possible?

Thanks

What alumimum boat? Size?

Strip a 12ft fishing boat ina weekend, probably

An 18ft cuddy, probably not.

Whats wrong w the rivets?

Weeping a little, leaking a lot, loose?

How do you plan to fix them?

A few of the rivets leak pretty good! Will replace with close ended pop rivets! I guess the main question is, if I strip the boat down to bare aluminum and can't prime and repaint until a few weeks later, will the aluminum just sit there and rust? Or is it nothing to worry about?

Ayuh,.... Aluminum oxidizes pretty much instantly when ya strip/ sand/ wirebrush it,....

Yer better off just sandin' smooth the paint, 'n repaintin' it,....

Aluminum don't like to be painted, unless ya follow all the steps, Exactly, 'n in very short order,.....
