I bought a 98 Procraft 180 Combo with a 98 Force 120 on back in April. I had some problems with it starting and/or dying when put into gear or idle. I dropped it off with a mechanic and I was showing him the engine when we noticed the aluminum prop had some gauges out of the front of the blade where it had hit the two bolts holding in the bearing carrier. Also the outer ring of metal on the bearing carrier was cracked and bowed out. Although if you tried to move the prop back and for it moved very slightly, but it was no where near close enough to hit the to bolts. I know this damage wasn't there when I bought the boat and after a closer inspection we noticed that the damage was cause when the prop was in reverse. The mechanic said that the outer ring of metal around the bearing carrier was more of a cosmetic issue than anything, so he shaved the metal off. He said that the only thing I needed to do was replaced the prop soon. Well I took it out a couple days ago and it ran great all day. When I was idling back to the marina I noticed a slippage sound and could feel a slight hesitation. Could this be caused by the bad prop or is there something else going on in my lower unit? Also what would cause the damage to the bearing carrier and prop in the first place?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
