Hey Guys,

I'll be making my maiden voayge in my 70 Arrow Glass with an old Chrysler 55. I am a little worried that I am going to have issues with the motor not being able to adjust trim or tilt. Am I being overly worried about this? The boat and motor combo is exactly how I got it from the PO so I am thinking I should be ok. Any thoughts guys? As Always thakns in advance.

There is no reason a fixed mounting should give you any trouble. It should be manually adjustable should you need to.

Figure out a way that you can hold the motor "up" getting in and out at the ramp - you don't want to drag the bottom of the drive. Otherwise, keep her in deep enough water and you should be okay.

I had one of those. You could pull it up and latch it inside the boat, but you would not want to travel with just that latch. I used a transom saver stiff leg when travelling. Not at first though! and one time the motor had fallen by the time I got home, went out and bought/installed the stiff leg right then, still in my trunks. The boat sat up on my trailer a ways and the engine would not hit when down but that scared me.

I tried each trim position one day to see what did what. I tied the rod to the mount with a stout string in case I dropped it while in the water. I remember having to change it floating in the water on one of the choices as that particular "choice" was wrong. I think it had four holes, maybe 5.

If memory serves, the second hole from the transom (15.5 foot fiberglass tri-hull) was what I left it at. The first hole helped planing immediately but stuck the bow too much as speeds rose. The 4th hole made it porpoise BAD. The 3rd hole made it porpoise some, and had the potential for the highest speed with just 2 people and no skiers, but the 2nd hole was best for my world which was towing kneeboards and skiers and just riding around. It was not a speed demon, would go 29.9mph (inside joke).

I believe I settled in on an 11p prop also. The boat was a 1972 Chrysler Sport Satellite, a 15.5' triHull, built a little heavier even than most of that era. And the 55hp was more like 40-45 at the prop.

One of my favorite boats.
