Am I ordering the right part#

Hello,

I am trying to order a water pump kit for my motor. It is a 40HP mercury outboard. I have written all the numbers down off the plate from the motor. They are listed below.

OG442617
40HP 1997 40MA 96

Is the number that I need the 442617 for ordering the water pump kit. The sierra # that I am coming up with is this one

with your Model and Serial
it shows
18-3507 Sierra

I found the break down of the Sierra Kit 18-3324

Which shows the pump housing and impeller #'s to be the equiv of the Merc #'s

Verify your serial #''s , and if your motor is the 4 cyl then I'd go with the
18-3324

I think that I got it figured out.

I am looking for the whole kit. I think that it will be 18-3323.

Any thoughts?

I have a 2 cly, 2 stroke 40 HP.

The 18-3323 and 3324 are both a molded upper housing with a stainless 'cup' liner.

Have you dropped the lower unit off and seen the water pump?

I expect you to find the smaller model with the top half of the pump to be stamped out of stainless steel, not molded plastic with a stainless liner.

Not knowing the # cyl's I was looking at 4 cyl motors. Wrong.
