when I got boat, did lower end reseal due to water in oil, which is first time I installed oil in it. Have only used VV555 Valvoline.

http://www.valvoline.com/pages/products/product_detail.asp?product=66

Now that I look at it, I don't see it is GL-5 anywhere on the bottle or the website... Could this be a reason for my "partially spun prop feeling". My manual specifies special quicksilver, and gives no spec like GL-5...please help ... is GL-5 the required? or what?

Edited
Just found this after more digging...VV555 is GL-4

Product Specs

Meets API GL-4 requirements.

What am I supposed to be using, and if using GL-4 for approx 2 hours, what have I done to lower unit (if anything at all) if I am supposed to use something else?

No harm done.

As long as it is for outboard gearcase use, and not labeled as "type C", you should be ok.

The main thing is that it is for marine use.
That makes it formulated to withstand the occasional water intrusion.
