Bunch of us moor up together at a sandbar. Guy with big new cruiser moored by himself. About 90 foot of line out. In 3-4 ft Water. No rear anchor. His boat is swinging full left to right. He is down sleeping in cabin. Two other boats take off cause they were sick of pushing him off. After 2x's being parrell to 4 of our boats bout ready to sit on the outdives. <br />Were hollering Hey "Crownline" No response. Others on the boat look at us like we have two heads. "we were here 1st"<br />One guy gets in water picks up anchor and starts walking him out to a place safer for all of us. <br />Guy gets furious I am a cop I have a gun on my boat. BLa bla bla<br />Starts screaming. We just go about enjoying our day. <br />Two weeks later, 1st boat shows up to wait for the rest of us. Wife walks up.<br />We don't want any trouble this week. "No we were not plannng on it"<br />Wife We don't want problems and he does have a gun on the boat.. NICE EH<br />So we just ignored him and he only had like 25ft out STILL no rear anchor.

Re: Amazing.

I would have cut is ancor line while he was below decks and took off, he would have gotten the message, gun or not he's not going to shoot you.

Called video camera, regular camera and enough withnesses. Document then report. (Can't imagine how the story changes once the video is shown!

Re: Amazing.

Well the days he has been an arse, we have had 11-12 boats. <br />We all talked about it yesterday.. If the arse acts up again. We will kindly ask him to repeat his statement to the local police force. Pretty sure he would settle down. <br />We have invited him to moor up with us, no. Friend brings out a huge water tramp. Invited his teens to come over and hang out with the other dozen or so kids. They won't let the kids off the boat. He must have some pretty big issues.

Re: Amazing.

everybody chip in a couple bucks and buy him a<br />stern anchor, then offer to teach him how to use<br />it properly.

Re: Amazing.

Write down his boat license and report him to the cops. If he is a real cop, he needs to have his gun taken away. I am no lawyer, but it sounds like he is making terroristic threats.

Especially when you show it to his C.O. "I've got a gun on my boat" is a more than a threat, it's assault isn't it? And this guy is charged with protecting you, not endangering you. At least that's why he's paid YOUR taxes isn't it?

Hmm... I don't think the mere mention of a gun is assault. Brandishing is another thing. In my experience, people mention a gun when they're frightened or feel threatened somehow and usually it's the person who doesn't actually own the gun who mouths off. You didn't mention tides or wind. It might have been more fun just to wait until he swung far enough to go aground... Still though, it seems like it might have helped to try to explain the basics of anchoring in a "non-threatening" way since it's obvious this guy needs some help in that department. Maybe instead of buying him a stearn anchor you guys could present him with a used (cheap) copy of Chapmans as a kind of make-up and be nice gesture - after all it sounds pretty likely that you're going to have to live with the guy.

No matter what the legal ramifications, the dude obviously suffers from certain inadequacies of either a phyical nature, mental or both. Cop or no cop, a 911 call would have been appropriate.<br /><br />I always thought that threatining to use a gun is assult. Brandishing the gun is assult with a deadly weapon. This may vary from state to state.

Re: Amazing.

Thus far no more run in with him. Only a few more weeks of good sand bar time. Guy had insta attitude anyways. We will see what happens next year. Thanks for the reinforcement that we were not insane for being a tad unhappy with this guy.
