So i would like to upgrade the sound system on our pontoon. I did all the installation on our ski boat and it was pretty easy. The pontoon does have underskin so I'm wondering if running power to the amp is going to be a pain. Planning to mount under the console. Any experience or recommendations?

Should be cut and dry if you installed one before. Best advice is keep in a dry place with good ventilation of it will overheat good luck

The skin on the underside could be a pain especially if it is pop riveted into place like mine is. However I was able to run a new power line to my console by pulling an existing line all the way though to the console with a string and a fiche tape and then pulled the line back along with a new set of power lines to the existing battery. Hope that makes sense? Good luck

Re: Amp on pontoon

What are you adding the amp for? Current speakers or adding more or sub-woofer(s)? If you are doing it for adding additional speakers/sub-woofer(s) why not put the amp near the battery underneath the back platform/changing room area (assuming you have one) and then run the speaker wires. If you are adding it to the existing speakers I agree with Okie with how to pull the wires. I have actually found that you can use high test braided fishing line in stead of a string and it can do a little better.

I am planning to add a sub. I think it will be much easier to run the power wires to the battery than speaker wires. I will try what okie said. Makes sense.

You know, that the main fuse panel is probably in the console, right?
How big of an amp are you thinking of adding?

Obviously, if you would hook it up with 4 ga wire in a car, you're going to need the same size in a boat.

Word of advice: Consider adding a second battery (a "house" battery - a marine deep-cycle battery).

I'm planning to go with a jl audio 700watt 5 channel class d amp. I was to there is feedback issues if you don't connect direct to battery.

I added a second battery with switch to mine. It came with the 600 watt Clarion Amp and Sub but only 1 battery...The second will give peace of mind which is invaluable on a boat.
