I'm limited on where to put the amplifier for my new stereo system and I'm curious if anyone has put an Amplifier in engine compartment ? My engine is blocked by 2 wood walls to the side compartments but I'm sure it still gets real hot in there. Its a marine amplifier so moisture wont be an issue, just heat. My battery is right there so connections will be simple. Might run a 12 volt big fan right on it if need be.

I installed mine hanging under the dash behind the glove-box. I did not want to add anything to the engine compartment

Heat would be an issue, but probably solved with a fan and vent. I would be more worried if it is not ignition protected, pretty sure it is a requirement if there are electronics in the engine bay.

Nothing good can happen to it . . . Is there another place where it could fit?

Re: Amplifier in engine compartment ??

I have two amps in my engine bay and have had them there for years now, Never had a problem. If it's not too late...An amp with a built in fan would be a good thing. Also keep in mind that the amp needs to be mounted on a vertical surface and mounted accordingly so that the heat will rise and evacuate the amp. I can post some picks of my set up if you want to see them? The fact that it is a marine amp is huge when being mounted in an engine bay, Not just because of "water resistance" but mainly because marine rated amps are "ignition protected". Meaning the amp will not ignite any gas vapors hanging around.

I have the option of installing the amp under the passenger side console, but i would have to run really long wires to the battery as well as to the sub that will be installed under the driver side dash. Was just trying to simplify the installation keeping it close to the battery. Possibly a 12" fan mounted over it will work or it must goes under the dash. I can probably get it real close to the vents in the back of the engine compartment so the air flows right out. Thanks for the reply's everyone.

I have a 300 watt version of a very similar prime amp and love it. :)
