I?m very novice when It comes to stereo equipment so your help is appreciated. I have a 20' Bluewater open bow and i looking at upgrading my stereo system. I?m looking at adding an amp on my boat to run 4 speakers. I currently have a Sony Xplode head unit pushing 2 Kenwood 6 x 9 and 2 Pioneer 5 ?. I have a separate Fosgate amp and sub but need an amp for the highs. I found a shop that will sell me a Rockford Fosgate Prime R300.4 for $145 or an Alpine Vpower MRP F300 for $150. Which amp do you recommend or is there another amp i should be looking at? Are these amp powerfull enough or do you recomend i hold off until i can afford something more expensive?

Re: Amplifier upgrade

I can't for the life of me figure out WHY ANYBODY needs that much volume!!!!!You are in a boat not a concert hall. All it does is disturb others that are trying to enjoy a PEACEFUL outing on the water.

I suggest that ALL people that have to have their music so loud invest in WIRELESS HEADPHONES!!!!!!!!!

Re: Amplifier upgrade

The Alpine has better specs as far as total harmonic distortion(THD) , and signal/ noise ratio.

Re: Amplifier upgrade

The fact of the matter is that having more available power doesn't necessarily equate to higher volume levels due to a myriad of factors, the volume knob being but one. Having more power in a properly designed and installed system will always equate to a cleaner, more dynamic sound at any volume level.

I suggest YOU start thinking about someone OTHER than YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!

Same to ya. Have a good day. :)

Re: Amplifier upgrade

This thread has gotten nasty and is now closed.

It is getting a little old that every time someone posts a stereo question, they are bombarded with these "keep it down" type posts. In many respects I agree. I don't have a stereo in my boat and don't foresee adding one. However, some people like to have one. It needs to be realized that amps aren't just about making music louder. They improve the quality of sound at all ranges. Have any of you considered perhaps the original poster would just like to listen to his music at lower volumes and not have it sound like a crappy clock radio?

I suggest the original poster start a new thread in the electrical section about his stereo issues.
