So does this mean it should power my light with no problem and not pull on my battery while engine is running? (If hooked to crank battery)

Does this mean that my cranking battery would be ok to hook light to if?

Light has a 5.5 amps draw


85% of use will be while running the boat engine

Yes. You're good.

Works the same as the alternator in your car. With motor running you're generating all the charge you need to keep the battery topped up while you run electrical accessories.
