My boat mechanic told me to try Amsoil 2cycle synthetic premix oil in my 1976 85hp Mercury. Is it safe to mix it 100 to 1 like recomended on the label for normal duty outboards?
If not, what is the best premix oil there is?

Re: Amsoil

Most good 2 cycle marine oils are rated TWC. I would use at 50 to 1, not 100 to 1 as the oil premix lubricates the bearings and other componetnts. Have never used AMSOIL so don't know much about it.

Re: Amsoil

I have used Amsoil at 100:1 for 15 years without any problemson a variety of engines.
My current engine is '91 Force 70hp.
This will even run at idle for trolling up to 1/2 hr without loading up the plugs.
It also acts as a fuel stabiliser.
It is your call however as to what you do.

Use the pre-mix (ATC) at 80:1 to 100:1 and don't worry about it. It is made to be used at that ratio. I have several commercial accounts that use it all day every day at 80:1 and love it.
There are tech sheets and brochures available for download at http://www.ultimateoiltechnology.com/marine.htm

Dave

Ditto... Ive run AMSoil for the past 4 years. However I dump more oil in then it says. I run around 75:1.

Id say it cut the smell in half and I have no fouling plugs anymore.
