I am using Amsoil lube in the lower unit and it works great. My question is about their 2-stroke oil. Their web site says that unless you are racing to use 100:1. Does anyone else use this iol at that ratio? Should I just ignor this and use it 50:1? If indeed I can use it at 100:1 then it is about the same price as the QuickSilver oil and at 100:1 it shouldn't smoke at all. Thanks in advance for your comments/help.

Happy boating

Craig

Re: Amsoil??

Goto to their product info page both of their 2-stroke oils are reccomended for air and water cooled engines. Their both reccomended for tc-w3 use. This is both of their 2-stroke oils Here's what they say:

100:1 PRE MIX

APPLICATION RECOMMENDATIONS - ATC 100:1 PRE-MIX
AMSOIL Synthetic 100:1 Pre-Mix 2-Cycle Oil (ATC) is recommended for all water-cooled and air-cooled pre-mix applications. A mix ration of 100:1 is recommended for normal duty service in applications such as motorcycles, outboard motors, snowmobiles, weed eaters, lawn mowers and chain saws. For "severe service" applications, richer mix ratios of 50:1 to 80:1 are recommended. These include racing motors and hot operating workhorse motors that continuously run for extended periods of time.

AMSOIL Synthetic 100:1 Pre-Mix 2-Cycle Oil is recommended for all pre-mix applications specifying TC-W3, API TC, JASO FC and ISO EGD. It is recommended for use with gasoline fuels only, and is not recommended for oil injection systems.

Outstanding Low Temperature Performance

Both AMSOIL Synthetic Injector Oil and 100:1 Pre-mix Oil mix readily with fuel even in low temperatures. However, AMSOIL Injector Oil with its -45°F pour point and SAE #4 miscibility and fluidity rating, is better suited for severe cold. It is recommended for use in injector systems as well as 50:1 pre-mix. Also, AMSOIL injector oil will help ease starting because it does not solidify or get gummy in the motor which allows it to turn over more freely.

SERIES 2000

Applications
AMSOIL Series 2000 2-Cycle Racing Oil is recommended in air or water-cooled two-cycle motors where NMMA TC-W3, API TC, or JASO FC oils are specified. It is excellent for both racing and recreational use in snowmobiles, outboard motors, personal watercraft, motorcycles and ATVs. AMSOIL Series 2000 2-Cycle Racing Oil is not recommended for use in aircraft or for use with nitromethane or alcohol fuels.

Recommended for use at a 50:1 mix ratio or as an injector oil for both racing and recreational use. Also recommended for use in all oil injection systems. Recommended for use with catalytic converters.

Keeps Engines Clean
AMSOIL Series 2000 2-Cycle Racing Oil contains additives that have been tested and proven to provide superior cleanliness in both air and water-cooled motors. AMSOIL Series 2000 2-Cycle additives inhibit the formation of deposits in the ring grooves, in the combustion chamber and on the exhaust power valves. With AMSOIL Series 2000 2-Cycle Racing Oil rings do not stick and spark plugs do not foul from carbon deposits, and exhaust power valve maintenance is minimized.

Compatibility
AMSOIL TCR is compatible with TC-W3 lubricants and most other two-cycle oils. For best performance, cross contamination should be minimized

For more info goto their web site or call them.

Re: Amsoil??

I tested every two stroke premix oil I could find when I had an ultra-light airplane. Amsoil was far and away the easiest starting and cleanest burning. I had a Rotax 447, a two cylinder 50 hp engine. However, I used it at 50:1.

Re: Amsoil??

Their series 2000 say not reccomended for use in aircraft. I wonder if it's cause of the altitude or AV gas?

Re: Amsoil??

I sent a question to the Amsoil company also and am waiting for their reply as to weather they will stand behind it if they tell me that I only have to use 100:1.

Their site is not clear on what is concidered "heavy duty". Is waterskiing? Is running at WOT for lets say 30 minutes or an hour?

Craig
