I was having lunch with some friends a few days ago, one of the guys was my drummer for about 12yrs, my best man, etc. He is massively into analog electronics, I think he has 7 or 8 turntables now, including a few really nice ADC AccuTrac tables (the programmable remote controlled ones from the late 70's), a very nice Gold Ring and several others; we both have kickin' Nakamichi BX-202 auto-reverse decks, the ones that spin the cassette around to reverse direction.
Anyways, we were talking about the differences in analog and digital music, and he said he can only listen to digital sources like CD's, MP3's, etc for a short length of time; after a while it starts giving him a headache. He referenced some study that was done and apparently its fairly common; our brains weren't designed to decipher digital data.

So my epiphany is this - women are digital!!

There's your new bestseller, "Men are Analog, Women are Digital"

It's true, too. Men can adapt and can accept quirks and imperfections; women on the other hand...

Digital......as in a 1 followed by a bunch of zeros. $1000000000000000000 ?

No wonder boats are referred to in the female gender.

I hate to break it to you but digital music is referring as how it is stored. What you listen to coming out of the speaker is analog music no matter the source.
It's a nice joke though....

Most anything digital, ie CD, MP3, ATRAC, etc are compressed and have gobs of missing data which IS in the analog recording. The more its compressed, the more missing data, and the more the sound quality degrades when compared to it's analog counterpart (Sony's ATRAC3 has the best quality). Compare an LP and the same track in a 96K or 128K MP3 sometime, the loss in quality makes my head hurt just thinking about it. I'd rather listen to an LP or music recorded on my Nak from an LP than a CD or MP3, the sound quality is so much better.
Some digital sources are better than others; compare AC3 soundtracks on a DVD and a LaserDisc, the soundtrack on LD will KILL the sound quality of the DVD because the LD is an uncompressed digital source.

I recently finished building this clone of a Soldano 3 channel guitar preamp. Definitely not digital.:)

I don't think my wife's voice is digital because listening to it makes me sleepy.

My post is refering to the above quote. Your brains are not listening to digital data, they are listening to the d/a converter analog interpretation of the digital source. I do agree, anything saved in digital format does not equal to an analog recording. Specially when compression comes to play, do you remember realplayer earlier versions? THAT would give me a headache!!!!
