On Thursday, September 18, our father, JB Cornwell, died peacefully after a long illness. Moderating the iboats forum and writing the column "Red Sky at Night" was a huge part of his life. He loved being able to share his expertise on all things boating and fishing with a wider audience than his friends and family. Boats, motors, fishing and time spent outdoors were his passion. The experience of moderating the forums was not so much a job, but a sacred obligation. Although JB enjoyed his solitude, living in relative isolation at his home, the "Hideout", spending time on the forums gave him a chance to form friendships with fellow outdoorsmen all over the world.

JB grew up hunting the trails and fishing the ponds of the North Carolina piney woods. The foundation of many of the stories he told in "Red Sky at Night" arose during those formative years. Later, as a young man, he served his country in the Navy. His military experiences took him fishing and exploring around the globe. His best catch came in Hawaii where he hooked and landed our mother, the Love of His Life (TLML). His career after the Navy led us to move frequently, which took him fishing and boating to areas as diverse as the north woods of Minnesota, the Florida coast, Illinois and Texas. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. As kids, our vacations were always an occasion to fish and spend time by the lake, away from civilization. An avid muskie fisherman, there were many treasured fishing trips to Lake of the Woods in northern Minnesota. A dedicated fan of the boats made by the Boston Whaler Company, he owned several himself and passed on that love and appreciation of a fine vessel to many.

JB had expressed a desire to write one final column for "Red Sky at Night" but was sadly unable to do so. We, his family, wanted to use this opportunity to thank Bruno, iboats and all of his readers and friends on the forum for everything you have done for him. We also want you all to know how much you meant to him, and by extension, to us. He considered y'all family. Sharing the stories of his life on the water and in the woods gave him great fulfillment and added purpose to his final years. For that we sincerely thank you.

From JB's family
