Yesterday, I just picked up a 15' Skaget with 3 motors, for a whopping $300
1) 1962 Evinrude Speeditwin 28hp
1) 1962 Evinrude Sportwin 10hp
1) 1958 Evinrude Fastwin
The 28hp is in great condition, other than the fact that it's in desparate need to cleaning up. It didn't pump water when I first brought it home. I dropped the lower unit, to find a new impeller and new housing installed, so I figured that the last person to work on it, missed the tube connection, to the waterpump housing. When I put it back together, it pumped like no tomorrow. Also found a brand new set of coils under the flywheel. Never any salt water use or never overheated. Probably only a hundred hours use on the motor.
The old 18 is running on one cylinder, because of a bad coil, but it does run and I started it, without even breaking a sweat. Ugly as sin, but will be a good rebuilder.
The old 10 still needs shift linkage tightened up under the powerhead. Getting the powerhead off, is going to be a bit of a chore, because I had to grind off the rear screw heads. Fortunately, there are the other three large hold down studs in the front, because I may have to put it back together minus one or two rear screws. This one too has a pair of new coils under the flywheel. Starts and runs good, but jumps out of gear and I may actually have to replace the clutch dog in it.
The boat is in decent shape, so I'm going to clean it up and put the 28 on it and sell them. That should make a little more than my total investment back.
