I guess I'm of the mindset that if the carb has a bad component, it's probably due for a rebuild. Kits are cheap, it takes less than an hour or two, and the peace of mind is worth it.
They're not supposed to run forever. Seals go bad, pumps go bad, passages get blocked. It's unavoidable!
