1972 Johnson 25hp: I drained the l/u and some water came out before the blackish-looking oil. I noticed one of the screws--think it was the top one--had no gasket. The other one had a nylon washer. I bought some nylon washers that are the correct i.d. but slightly too large on the o.d. They will pull into the recess when the screw is tightened, slightly cupping the washer in the process.

What is correct,or at least useable,to seal these screws? Thanks for reading this.

I would try to find the right washers for sure. Your local boat store/mechanic should be able to look them up. iboats may even stock them. If you absolutely must use the ones you have, I'd use a dremmel tool, file, or grinding wheel to take them down so that they do not cup when installed.

Well there ya go. BRP is where I get my obsolete parts for my '74 OMC. boobie... It seems as though you can order strait from their website. Can you? I've been on there many times, but never tried.

I say just order the correct ones (I get packs of 50) and just use the ones that you have until they get here.

I got two today from a local dealer for $0.99 each. They were closed when I posted this yesterday. I changed the oil about a half hour ago. Thanks.
