How do you wire an analog tach to the wire harness on the new mercs. The gray wire is part of a harness that I think is for Smart Craft gauges. The only wires that are individual are a red, yellow/black, tan/blue, blue/white, green/white. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks

You want +12VDC (purple), tach sender (grey), and ground (black) to run the tach

Does this mean that you have to cut the fancy harness and rob those wires from that? What if I ever wanted to go back and use Smart Gauges?

Thanks

Just open it up and use a vampire tap to get what you need, don't cut wires.

My understanding with vampire taps is that they expose the wire to premature corrosion but I'm sure it would work. Does Mercury make a harness that will plug in and have bullet connectors on the other end? Or is there any way to access the gray wire from another location? Thanks for all the help!!

I think they do. I've done something similar with a 8 pin extension harnesses.
