Hello all!
I have a 1999 Proline 220 CC with a 1999 Mercury 200 XL Saltwater (Carb)- Serial #- OG803976
Since I bought the boat 2 years ago from the original owner I have been slowly replacing everything that was older or worn out but the previous owner was pretty good about maintenance, most of the things I have repaired or replaced were just worn out after 20 years but overall the boat and motor are in excellent condition.
One thing that was not working when I bought the boat was the trim sensor/gauge and I just recently found it on the port side of the motor while I was doing routine maintenance. The sensor is there and tight but it isn't working.
I have a couple questions for the group.
1. Is there a way to test the sensor to see if it is any good? I am not sure which wires to check at the gauge to see if it is getting power.
2. If I do have to change it how big of a job is it? The wire(s) definitely run through the harness that goes from the engine to the front of the console to the gauge about 12-15 feet on my boat.
3. Would it be easier or wiser to just change the sensor and make a new connection to the existing wire that runs to the gauge?
I know I probably don't need the gauge but I have OCD about EVERYTHING working as it should on the boat, and if it is on the motor/boat it was meant to be used I suppose. I looked up the part and it is not very expensive.
Thank you for any help.
