Alrighty... Looks like I will be just getting a total new outdrive for my 93 Mariah. I'm looking for an Alpha 1, Generation 2 outboard.

Anybody have any ideas as to the best place to find one that isn't going to totally break my pocket book (I will also be taking it in to the local boat shop to have installed... so they are going to rape me on labor fees!).

I've tried ebay and found them around $1,200.

Thanks again for everybodys help... It's been to long since I've had my boat on the water and I miss the lake!! :)

Have you checked to see what it will cost to get yours rebuilt? An entire outdrive is going to cost a lot of cash

I might try to just take the outdrive (It's already off of the boat) into my local boat shop and see what they will charge me to just fix it... I'm hoping it's just the two upper unit gears and nothing else!

This is the post that I didn't want to read! But I had an idea that there was more damage then the two gears (They were stripped out pretty bad, and metal shavings were everywhere!)

SO that is why I was going to just say "screw it" and get a whole new outdrive. .... :(

How much do they give you for a core exchange?

The gears (#'s 23 and 24 in this diagram) were what were stripped out.

Just to reinforce what tommays said about the complete drive.
Just pulled the top off one today that looked the same way as yours. NOTHING salvagable in the lower. With the shafts, shift mechanism, all the bearings all the gears, you can get a new drive cheaper. Even from Mercruiser.
