Anchor help please

I'm not sure how to wire this, but my anchor has 2 wires coming off of it. I'm trying to put it on a on off on switch to go up and down. Here's where I run into problems. One wire to a positive, and ground the other one, the anchor motor pulls the rope. I can't figure out how to reverse it? I tried to switch positive and negative and that did nothing. Is there something that I am missing here? Any help is appreciated!
-Gerry

Re: Anchor help please

It sounds like you need a third wire. One for down, one for up and then the ground.Double check and make sure there is not another wire somewhere.Unless, it's a manual release and electric retrieve.
Most are actually clutch-release.Meaning, you release the clutch and the anchor drops then you hit the button and it retrieves electrically. You would have to have a dual-direction electric model for it to work like you are talking.
Double check what you have.

ok, these are the only 2 wires that come off the anchor. Inside the anchor motor, theres a little motor, when it spins one way it winds the line in, when it spins the other way it pulls down the clutch and lets the anchor drop on it's own weight. Is there some sort of resistors in an anchor switch that would make it spin the other way? It just doesn't make sense!
-Gerry

Finney,
Are you sure the anchor doesn't just drop due to gravity, and the motor is only a uni-directional motor, that is, it only pulls one way. The switch probably engages both a motor and a latching mechanism. If there is an up and down switch, the up probably engages the motor...pulling the anchor up. with each turn of the motor, there probably is a gear that is latching, like a like a fishing rod reel. When you press the down button, it might just release the gear, sending the anchor to the bottom. This is just a guess. I'm an electrician an I work around motors quite a bit, and this one reminds me of a few applications that I've run across.
